Gutenberg’s invention of movable type, was the ‘Gutenberg’ Bible of 1456. The importance of the invention of printing for the Reformation is well known, and Martin Luther and others made good use of it for their tracts and controversial writings. The reformers were not particularly sympathetic towards libri ecclesiastici, and followed Jerome in distinguishing them from books of the Hebrew canon.
